SUMMARY:VIVA FY26 OEN Train the trainer: Intro to OER Adoption Workshop
DESCRIPTION:VIVA is offering a virtual\, synchronous Open Education
Network's Train-the-trainer: Intro to OER Adoption Workshop on May 19th
from 10am-1:00pm. Upon completion of the workshop\, participants will be
considered a VIVA OEN Campus Leader in OER Adoption. \n\nParticipants will
\n\n\n	Discover how to demonstrate to faculty that open textbooks lower
student costs and increase educational equity.\n	Encourage faculty to
engage with open textbooks by inviting them to review a book in the Open
Textbook Library.\n\n\nUpon completion of the workshop\, participants will
be considered certified as a VIVA OEN Campus Leader in OER Adoption and
will be able to: \n\n\n	Deliver the Introduction to OER Adoption Workshop\,
which introduces faculty to open textbooks - one type of open educational
resource (OER) and the benefits these textbooks offer: affordability\,
pedagogical practice\, student learning\, and engagement. Faculty are then
invited to engage with open textbooks by writing a brief review of a book
in the Open Textbook Library\, a strategy proven to increase likelihood
that faculty will adopt OER for their courses.\n\n\nWorkshop
Contents\n\nTwo facilitators from the OEN community will lead the group
through: \n\n\n	Uncover barriers to open textbook adoption\n	Discuss
strategies for raising awareness\, educating\, and engaging \n	Practice
successful strategies for responding to questions about open
education\n	Discuss ways to incentivize faculty engagement with open
textbooks\n\n\nThere will be small group discussions\, plenty of time for
questions\, and a 30-minute break. The session will be interactive to
encourage community building\, connection\, and a shared learning
experience.\n\nEligibility\n\nAnyone at a VIVA member institution is
eligible to participate in the training. We recommend it to those who are
interested in facilitating either the Introduction to OER Adoption Workshop
or program managers wishing to learn more about supporting OER
adoption.\n\nIf you are a faculty member looking for an introduction to
OER\, please reach out to your institutional campus leader for assistance\,
including any possible Introduction to OER Adoption workshops they are
offering. \n\nVIVA Code of Conduct\n\nVIVA is dedicated to harassment-free
